Lilly Inks $40 Million Deal With Cubs
12/7/06 – Former Expos pitcher Ted Lilly has signed a four-
year deal with the Chicago Cubs worth approximately $40
million.

The 30-year-old left-hander, who went 15-13 with a 4.31 ERA
last season while with Toronto , had apparently hoped to sign
with the New York Yankees.  He was told by New York on
Wednesday however that they were not going to bid on his
services, choosing instead to go after free agent Andy Pettitte.

Originally a 23rd round draft pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers
in 1996, Lilly was traded to Montreal in 1998 and broke into the
majors with the Expos the following season, going 0-1 in nine
appearances.  Over a nine-year career, Lilly has compiled a 59-
58 record to go along with a 4.60 ERA.  He was named a
member of the American League All-Star team in 2004.
