White Sox Decline Option on Hermanson
Press Box
10/31/06 – The Chicago White Sox have
declined a $3.65 million option on former
Montreal pitcher Dustin Hermanson. The
right-handed reliever will instead receive a
$500,000 buyout.
Hermanson missed most of the 2006
season due to lower back inflammation but
did return in September, appearing in six
games. He had 34 saves for the world
champion White Sox in 2005 but lost his
closer’s role to Bobby Jenks when the back
problems began.
The 33-year-old Hermanson was originally a
first round draft pick by the San Diego Padres
in 1994. He pitched for the Expos from 1997
through 2000 and led the club in wins in three
of those seasons. In a 12-year career,
Hermanson has a lifetime record of 73-78
with a 4.21 ERA.
