Minnesota Releases Tony Batista
6/20/06 – Tony Batista, the Expos third baseman in 2004
was released by the Minnesota Twins on Monday after
being designated for assignment on June 13.

Batista signed with Minnesota this past December after
spending the entire 2005 season playing for the Fukuoka
Softbank Hawks of the Japanese Pacific League.  In 50
games for the Twins, Batista posted a .236 batting
average to go along with five home runs and 21 RBI.  He
was just 3 for 22 with no RBI in June.

The 32-year-old Batista was in his 12th major league season with his sixth
different team.  While with Montreal in 2004, he hit .241 with 32 homers and 110
RBI over 157 games.
