Gary Carter To Manage In Futures Game
6/19/06 - Gary Carter, who was elected into Baseball's
Hall of Fame in 2003 as a Montreal Expo, was named
manager of the United States team in the XM Radio All-
Star Futures Game.  The exhibition featuring the top
prospects in minor league baseball will be held on July
9th at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

Carter is currently the skipper of the St. Lucie Mets who
are in first place of the Florida State League’s Eastern
Division.  Last year, Carter led Gulf Coast Mets to a 37-
16 record and a birth in the league championship
series.  Canadian-born Hall of Famer Ferguson
Jenkins, a former major league pitching coach will
manage the World team.

Carter spent the first 11 of his 19 major league seasons in Montreal before being
dealt to the Mets in 1985.  He also played for the San Francisco Giants and Los
Angeles Dodgers.

"The Kid" was an 11-time All-Star and was the Game's Most Valuable Player in both
1981 and 1984.  He also won three Gold Glove Awards while with the Expos.  In
New York, Carter was a member of the 1986
World Champion Mets club.  He rejoined their organization in 2003.
