Day Placed on 60-Day D.L.
5/30/06 - The Washington Nationals have
placed pitcher Zach Day on the 60-day disabled
list, retroactive to May 22 due to right shoulder
tendonitis.  The former Expo is scheduled to
have exploratory surgery on the shoulder this
week.

Day, who is 2-5 with a 6.75 ERA, was claimed
off waivers from Colorado earlier this season.
The right-hander was 1-2 with a 10.80 ERA for
the Rockies before appearing in five games for
Washington before the injury.

Last season, Day went 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in 12 games for the Nationals.  On July
13, he was traded to Colorado along with J.J. Davis for outfielder Preston Wilson.
Day appeared in only five games for the Rockies before breaking his right thumb in
September.  He was placed on the 60-day disabled list and missed the remainder
of the season.

Day was originally drafted by the Yankees and spent time with the Indians
organization before making his major league debut with the Expos in 2002.  He
spent three seasons with Montreal, posting an 18-19 record in an Expos uniform.
