John Tamargo Suspended by I.L.
5/26/06 – Former Expos catcher and current
Durham Bulls manager John Tamargo has
been suspended 10 games by the International
League after bumping an umpire.
The incident took place in the bottom of the
ninth inning on Sunday, May 21 in Charlotte,
North Carolina.  Tamargo argued that a one-out
single by Charlotte’s Jerry Owens was a foul
ball and proceeded to bump the first-base
umpire several times.  Minor League Base-
ball’s regular umpires have been on strike all
season and their replacements have come
under much scrutiny.   Durham’s Delmon
Young was also suspended earlier this
season after throwing a bat at an umpire
following a disagreement over a called third
strike.

with St. Louis, San Francisco and Montreal.  Tamargo finished his career with the
Expos in 1980 after hitting .275 with one home run and 13 RBI in 37 games.
