Day Returns to Nationals
4/27/06 - Pitcher Zach Day will rejoin the
Washington Nationals after being claimed off
waivers from Colorado on Wednesday. The
Rockies had designated Day for assignment
last Friday. The right-hander was 1-2 with a
10.80 ERA for Colorado this season.
Last season, Day went 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in
12 games for Washington. On July 13, he was
traded to Colorado along with J.J. Davis for
outfielder Preston Wilson.
Day appeared in only five games for the Rockies before breaking his right thumb in
September. He was placed on the 60-day disabled list and missed the remainder
of the season.
Day was originally drafted by the Yankees and spent time with the Indians
organization before making his major league debut with the Expos in 2002.
Day has a career record of 20-24 with a 4.66 ERA. Washington will pick up his
$600,000 salary.
