Sledge Demoted to Triple-A
4/18/06 – Former Expos outfielder Terrmel Sledge
was demoted by the San Diego Padres to the
Triple-A Portland Beavers on Tuesday due to poor
play.
Sledge committed several defensive miscues and
was hitting just .160 with one RBI and three runs
scored over nine games for San Diego. He was
acquired by the Padres on January 4, part of a six-
player deal with the Texas Rangers. The Padres
purchased the contract of relief pitcher Jon Adkins
from Portland to fill Sledge’s roster spot.
Sledge broke into the majors with Montreal in
2004 and hit .269 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI
in 133 games played. Last year with the
Washington Nationals, Sledge appeared in just
eight games and went 9 for 37 with one homer
and eight RBI.
