Pedro Martinez Notches 200th Career Win
4/18/06 – Former Expos pitcher Pedro Martinez,
picked up his 200th career win on Monday night
as he helped the New York Mets to a 4-3 victory
over the division-rival Atlanta Braves.
Martinez gave up three runs on six hits while
striking out eight batters over 6 2/3rds innings
pitched. He received a loud ovation and
acknowledged the crowd of 36,867 at Shea
Stadium after being lifted from the game in the
seventh. Pedro improved his record to 3-0 on the
season and 200-84 for his career. Martinez has
the fewest losses of any of the 103 pitchers who
have ever won 200 games.
Martinez pitched for Montreal for four seasons
beginning in 1994. In 1997, Pedro went 17-8 with
a 1.90 ERA and captured the National League Cy
Young Award, becoming the only Expo pitcher ever
to do so.
