Alonzo Powell Back To Dayton
3/21/06 – Alonzo Powell, who played in 14 games
for the Expos in 1987, has beennamed the hitting
coach for the Dayton Dragons, the Class-A
Midwest League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.

Powell was slated to be the bench coach for
Cincinnati’s Triple-A affiliate in Louisville this
season.  However, he stepped forward and
accepted the position in Dayton after the opening
became available when Billy White was
dismissed by the organization.  Powell actually
managed the Dragons in 2004 and 2005.

Powell played professionally for 19 seasons, appearing in the major leagues with
Montreal in 1987 and Seattle in 1991.  He has a career average of .211 with 3 home
runs and 14 RBI over 71 games.  He also hit .313 over seven seasons in Japan and
is the only non-Japanese born player to win three consecutive batting titles there.
