Luis Ayala Out For Season
3/17/06 - Luis Ayala, who appeared in 146
games over two seasons for the Expos,
sprained a ligament in his elbow and will miss
the entire 2006 season.

Ayala suffered the injury on Thursday night
in facing just one batter while pitching for
Mexico against the United States in the World
Baseball Classic.  He will have reconstructive
surgery within the next two weeks.

Ayala, a member of the Washington Nationals
bullpen, went 8-7 last season with a 2.66 ERA
while serving primarily as Chad Cordero's
setup man.  Ayala made his major league
