Nick Johnson Gets Three-Year Extension
3/12/06 - The Washington Nationals have
signed first-baseman Nick Johnson to a three-
year contract extension, worth $16.5 million.

deal in January,  was scheduled to become a

deal will keep Johnson in Washington through
the 2009 campaign.  Should he be traded prior
to the 2008 season, the final year of the deal
becomes a player option.

Johnson will earn $3.2 million this year plus
incentives based on playing time and $5.5

spent time on the disabled list in each of his five
big league seasons.

1996 amatuer draft, hit .289 with 15 home runs and 74 RBI with Washington last
season.  His .996 fielding percentage was third best among National League first
basemen.

along with pitcher Randy Choate and outfielder Juan Rivera for pitcher Javier
Vazquez.  Johnson posted a .251 batting average with seven home runs and 33 RBI
