Pedro, Vlad Out of World Baseball Classic
3/2/06 – Former Expo superstars Pedro Martinez and Vladimir Guerrero
have both pulled out of the inaugural World Baseball Classic.

Martinez, now of the New York Mets, is being bothered by an irritated big
toe on his right foot and just threw from the top of the mound for the first
time on Tuesday.  Martinez also acknowledged that his arm is not at full
strength.

Guerrero announced that he would not participate in the WBC, following
the deaths of three cousins in an auto accident last week.  He rejoined
the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim yesterday but said he would be
unable to properly represent his country and focus on baseball if he
played in the tournament.  Should Guerrero change his mind, he could
see action in the second or third rounds.

Both players were slated to play for the Dominican Republic.
