Bucs Land Righty Tony Armas, Jr.
2/1/07 – The Pittsburgh Pirates have
signed former Expos pitcher Tony
Armas, Jr. to a one-year contract
worth $3.5 million.  The deal
includes a mutual option for 2008
worth $5 million and a $500,000
buyout.

The 28-year-old right-hander is
coming of a season in which he
went 9-12 with a 5.03 ERA in 30
starts for the Washington Nationals.  
Armas was originally drafted by the
New York Yankees but was dealt to
Boston and then to Montreal in 1997
as the player to be named later in the
Pedro Martinez trade.

Over eight major league seasons,
Armas has compiled a 48-60 record
to go along with a 4.45 ERA.
