Nats Hire Wetteland
1/30/06 – Former Expos relief pitcher
John Wetteland has been named the
new bullpen coach for the Washington
Nationals.

Wetteland went 48-45 to go along with
330 saves and a 2.93 ERA over a 12 year
major league career with the Dodgers,
Expos, Yankees and Rangers.  He ranks
ninth on the all-time saves list.

While with Montreal from 1992 through
1994, Wetteland recorded 105 saves
which is the fourth most in franchise
history.  His 43 saves in 1993 was the
most in team history until Chad Cordero
saved 47 games last season.

The Expos traded Wetteland to the
Yankees for Fernando Seguignol and
cash in April, 1995.  The following
season Wetteland led the American
League with 43 saves and was named
the World Series Most Valuable Player.  He was named to the American League All-
Star team in 1996 while with New York and again in 1998 and 1999 as a member of
the Texas Rangers.

Wetteland had spent the last three seasons as a roving pitching instructor for Texas.
He replaces Bob Natal as the Nationals bullpen coach.
