Blue Jays Sign Tomo Ohka
1/25/07 – Former Expos pitcher
Tomo Ohka is returning to Canada,
agreeing to a one-year contract with
the Toronto Blue Jays.
The 30-year-old right-hander is
coming off a season in which he
went 4-5 with a 4.82 ERA for the
Milwaukee Brewers. Ohka missed
more than two months of the season
however due to a partial tear of his
right rotator cuff and was sidelined in
September because of a strained
right hamstring.
Ohka began his major league career
with the Boston Red Sox after being
purchased from the Yokohama Bay
Stars of Japan's Central League. He
was traded to the Montreal Expos in
2001 and had his finest season the
following year, going 13-8 with a 3.18
ERA, seventh best in the league.
