Floyd Signs With Cubs
1/24/07 – Former Expos outfielder Cliff Floyd and
the Chicago Cubs have come to terms on a one-
year contract worth $3 million.  The deal could also
earn him another $4.5 million in performance
bonuses and contains a mutual option for 2008.

The 34-year-old hit .244 with 11 home runs and 44
RBI last season with the New York Mets.  He
missed considerable playing time due to an
injured Achilles’ tendon and had surgery on his left
foot in October.

Floyd was Montreal ’s first-round draft pick in the
1991 amateur draft and made his major league
debut with the Expos in 1993.  He was traded to
Florida in 1997 but was dealt back to the Expos in
2002, playing in just 15 games before another
trade sent him to Boston.

In 14 major league seasons, Floyd has compiled a
.279 batting average to go along with 213 home
runs and 781 RBI.  He was named to the National
League All-Star team in 2001 and was a member
of the Marlins’ world championship team in 1997.
