Bentz Lands With White Sox
1/20/06 – Chad Bentz, a Juneau, Alaska
native who appeared in 36 games for
the Montreal Expos in 2004, has signed
a minor-league contract with the
Chicago White Sox.
Bentz was originally drafted by the
New York Yankees in the 34th round of
the 1999 amateur draft, but he did not
sign. Montreal selected him in the
seventh round of the 2001 draft out of
Long Beach State University. In 2003
while with Double-A Harrisburg, Bentz
tied for third in the Eastern League with
16 saves. He made his major league
debut with the Expos the following
season, going 0-3 record with a 5.86
ERA. Bentz was released later in
December.
Florida signed him as a free agent last year and he appeared in just four games for
the Marlins, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits in just two innings pitched.
Bentz was born with a deformed right hand and uses his left hand to pitch and also
field.
