Renko Named Mavs Pitching Coach
1/19/06 - The Kansas City Royals have
named Steve Renko as their pitching
coach for their Class-A California League
affiliate in High Desert.

Renko joins the Mavericks after serving
as a pitching coach for three seasons
in the Yankees farm system.  He has
also coached in the Giants, Brewers,
White Sox and Angels organizations.

The 61-year-old Renko pitched in the
majors for 15 years begining with
Montreal in 1969.  He pitched for the
Expos until he was dealt to the Cubs
during the 1976 campaign.  Renko also
had stints with the White Sox,  Athletics,
Red Sox, Angels and Royals.

He compiled a career record of 134-146 with an ERA of 3.99.  Renko posted a career
high of 15 wins in both 1970 and 1973 while with the Expos.  While with the Angels in
1981 and 1982, his won-loss percentages of .667 and .647 ranked him among the
top 10 in the American League.
