Jays Ink Lilly to One-Year Pact
1/18/06 - The Toronto Blue Jays avoided salary
arbitration with pitcher Ted Lilly, signing him to a
one-year contract worth $4 million.
The 30-year-old southpaw went 10-11 last season
with a 5.56 ERA. In 2004, Lilly posted a 12-10
record with a 4.06 ERA and was named to the
American League All-Star team.
Lilly broke into the majors in 1999 with the Expos.
He appeared in nine games, going 0-1 with a
7.06 ERA. That offseason, he was sent to the
Yankees as part of the trade that brough Hideki
Irabu to Montreal.
Lilly pitched for New York until 2002 when he was
dealt mid-season to the Oakland Athletics. He has
a career record of 44-45 with a 4.67 ERA over 153
games.
