Nick Johnson, Nats Okay One-Year Deal
1/17/06 - The Washington Nationals and first
baseman Nick Johnson have come to terms on
a one-year contract worth $3.2 million.
The former Expo who was originally drafted by
the New York Yankees in the third round of the
1996 amatuer draft, hit .289 with 15 home runs
and 74 RBI with Washington last season. His
.996 fielding percentage was third best among
National League first basemen.
Johnson spent the 2004 season with the Expos
after being acquired from New York along with
pitcher Randy Choate and outfielder Juan Rivera
for pitcher Javier Vazquez. Johnson posted a
.251 batting average with seven home runs and
33 RBI.
