Alou Named Special Assistant
1/6/07 – After four years as their manager, the San
Francisco Giants have retained former Expos skipper
Felipe Alou as a special assistant to general
manager Brian Sabean.
Alou took over the Giants in 2003 and led them to the
National League Western Division title that season.
However, after two straight losing seasons he was let
go at the conclusion of the 2006 campaign. Alou
compiled a 342-304 record as San Francisco's
manager.
Alou played 17 years in the majors, posting a .286
lifetime average with 206 home runs and 852 RBI in
stints with the Giants, Braves, Athletics, Yankees,
Expos and Brewers. Prior to the Giants, he managed
the Expos for ten seasons and won the National
League Manager of the Year Award in 1994.
